Five injured as two groups clash

During cricket match; one of them sustained bullet injuries

One person sustained bullet injuries, while others were injured in firing and brick pelting after as two groups clashed over a fight between children during a cricket match in Greater Noida’s Jarcha on Wednesday morning, the police said.

The injured have been identified as Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem, Mohammad Arif, Waqil Khan and Umar Khan. Rizwan sustained bullet injuries in his head and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His condition is said to be critical.

“A PCR call was made at 7 a.m. about the incident in Kalonda village in Greater Noida. The fight started when children in the village were playing a cricket match,” said Krishan Kumar Rana, SHO, Jarcha police station.

The police said that one Iliyas, who lives in Kalonda village fired at Mohammad Abbas, another resident of the village. A quarrel began between the two, leading to a clash between two groups. Attackers used countrymade pistols to fire at each other and also hurled stones..

“Based on the complaint filed by Mohammad Intezar, Rizwan’s uncle, we have booked five persons under relevant IPC Sections,” said Mr. Rana. A case under IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and Sections 147, 148 and 149 (rioting, rioting with deadly weapon and unlawful assembly) has been registered. “We have formed teams to nab the absconding accused,” said Mr. Rana.
