LUDHIANA: An eight-month old foetus of a woman died on Wednesday morning after she was allegedly beaten up by her mother’s landlord at Mullanpur on Monday evening. Meanwhile, the landlord’s family also claims he was beaten by the tenant’s family.

Amandeep Kaur and her husband Vicky Kumar live near the airport in Chandigarh, where Vicky works as a computer hardware expert. Vicky said his wife was eight months pregnant, and added that a few days ago, she had come to Mullanpur to meet her mother Manjeet Kaur, who had been living on Mullanpur-Raikot road with her family for the past seven to eight years.
Vicky said when his wife was sleeping, the landlord — Nirvair Singh — came in a drunken state and threw a table fan outside. He added that later, Nirvair and his son beat her up and kicked her many times in the womb. Amandeep said because of the injuries, her foetus died in her womb. She added they had lodged a complaint against the accused and his son with the police.
Vicky said his mother-in-law told him Nirvair wanted to evacuate them, so he resorted to violence. Meanwhile, Nirvair’s son Jagjit Rakba claimed his father was beaten up by the tenant’s family. He added his father suffered injuries, and they had lodged a complaint with the police.
Station house officer (SHO) inspector Inderjit Singh said the woman’s statement was being recorded, and after investigation, necessary action would be taken as per law. He added they had also received a complaint from the landlord’s party. The SHO said they would get a doctor’s opinion on the cause of death of the foetus as well.
