Indore: Metro rail work to begin in Jan, MP Metro Rail Co inspects route

Indore: Civil work of the much-awaited metro rail project would begin in January 2019, nearly a decade after chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the ambitious project for Indore and Bhopal. “We are going to start construction of project in January,” said Jitendra Dubey, technical director, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company.

A team comprising Dubey from Bhopal had visited the city and surveyed the area from where the metro rail would pass. Municipal commissioner Asheesh Singh accompanied the visiting team. The team on Tuesday inspected the stretch between Kanadia Road and Airport Square for the proposed route.

Dubey said rail would run on an elevated track from Kanadia to High Court Square and thereafter it would go underground. “From High Court Square to Bada Ganpati, the track will remain underground. From Bada Ganpati, the track would  come out and will be laid on elevated ramp till Airport Square,” he said.

Dubey said that the main station of the rail project will be at Rajwada. To a query that many flyovers have been planned in the city and they may impede metro rail project, Dubey said that they would not let flyovers impact the rail project.

The design will be made in such a way that both flyovers and rail track are constructed without obstruction, he added. Over delay in the project, Dubey said there won’t be any delay now. “We are going to start work on first phase of the project in next four months. Tender process is over. In coming months, tenders will be finalised and work will start,” he said. The first phase work will begin from MR-10. Initially, a six- meter long track will be laid from MR-10 to Mumtajbagh Colony and thereafter other phases will start.
