LUCKNOW: A series of video clips showing UP police personnel shooting in the leg of an alleged criminal in Noida surfaced on Tuesday. The video’s authenticity has been confirmed by the police.
According to the police, accused
Firoz, who was injured in the encounter, and one of his accomplices had stolen a Hyundai Accent car from a bus stop near
Kailash Hospital in
Greater Noida on Monday.
The video shows two UP police vehicles being chased and filmed by an unknown group of people on a stretch between Kasna and Luksar Jail in Noida. One of the two police vehicles (UP85AG0746) displays ‘SHO’ on its rear windshield.
In the video, pedestrians, cyclists, cars, heavy vehicles and even an ambulance can be seen passing by. Suddenly, three gunshots are heard. The video doesn’t show Firoz possessing any weapon or firing at the police, though the cops claim otherwise. The police have maintained that both Firoz and his accomplice had fired at them.
One of the cops can be seen inching closer towards an injured Firoz, brandishing a service pistol. “Yeh raha idhar (here he is),” he screams as another cop says, “Idhar bhaga ek (here’s one running away)”. This is followed by another policeman in civil clothes firing in the dark.
