Surat: Vishal Nayak, a convict in the sensational 2005 Chetan Battery murder case, was booked for attacking policemen outside Lajpore Central Jail (LCJ). Nayak, who was even jumped furlough in the past, assaulted cops and threatened to commit suicide alleging that Sachin police station team did not allow him to eat food while returning from Ahmedabad.
Nayak, who is currently lodged in Lajpore jail, was booked following a complaint lodged by Bhavesh Sosa, 29, a police sub inspector. On being brought back from Ahmedabad on Tuesday evening, Nayak not only abused the cops but also assaulted them with an umbrella. He refused to get down from the police van and threatened to commit suicide, Sosa said, adding that Nayak threatened to frame the cops on duty in his suicide. Nayak was booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 353 (assault), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions).
Nayak was convicted along with 10 others in April 2012 for murdering gangster Chetan Battery in Sabarmati Jail in August 2005. Nayak, his associate Gova Rabari and other convicts of the murder were shifted to Vadodara Central Jail and Lajpore later. Nayak jumped furlough in June 2015 and was arrested by Ahmedabad crime branch and Gujarat ATS from Mumbai in a joint operation in June 2016.
