7 districts in TN, 2 in Puducherry to have piped gas supply

Seven districts in Tamil Nadu and two in Puducherry will get Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for domestic and commercial establishments in a few years from now.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Authority (PNGRA) has approved issue of Letters of Intent (LoI) to the 10 successful bidders across the country.

Of these, public sector major Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) was the successful bidder for Coimbatore and Salem for City Gas Distribuion (CGD), R. Sitharthan, Executive Director (Tamil Nadu and Puducherry), IOCL, said here on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after launching the 5 kg cylinder and LPG-powered iron boxes for istriwalas in Coimbatore, he said the other districts that would get PNG connections are Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Tirupur and Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu and Karaikkal and Mahe districts in Puducherry.

Adani Gas Company had successfully bid for Cuddalore, Nagapatinam, Tiruvarur and Tirupur, Torrent Gas Private Limited has bagged Karaikkal, Indian Oil-Adani Gas Private Limited won the bid for Mahe.
