Eaton Vance shares surge 10% as earnings beat estimates

Eaton Vance Corp. shares EV, +0.11% surged more than 10% in premarket trade Wednesday, after the asset manager posted better-than-expected earnings for its fiscal third quarter. The Boston-based company said it had net income of $101.8 million, or 83 cents a share, in the quarter to July 31, up from $67.4 million, or 58 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Adjusted per-share earnings came to 82 cents, ahead of the 81 cents FactSet consensus. Revenue rose to $430.6 million from $393.7 million, compared with a FactSet consensus of $430.0 million. Assets under management rose 12% to $453.2 billion. Shares are down 4.1% in 2018, while the S&P 500 SPX, +0.03% has gained 8.4%.
