NTR's son and former TDP MP N. Harikrishna dies in road accident

Telugu actor and former Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Harikrishna was killed in a road accident near Telangana’s Nalgonda district on Wednesday early morning. He was 61.

He was the fourth son of N. T. Rama Rao, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and founder of the Telugu Desam Party.

Mr. Harikrishna suffered a severe head injury after he was thrown out of his speeding car, which rammed into a divider. He was declared “brought dead” by the doctors at the Kamineni Hospital, 15 kms away from accident site.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit unveiled the statue of Lakshmana Iyer, a freedom fighter from Gobichettipalayam, who dedicated his life for the welfare of the lesser-privileged, at his native place on Wednesday.

The late freedom fighter donated 26 acres for technical education to adidravidas in Gobichettipalayam, immediately after the independence.

Lakshmana Iyer freed Dalits from the debts that swamped them, he ensured that they lived in comfortable houses on clean, wide streets, he built modern toilets and put an end to the practice of hand-scavenging.
