SURAT: A person from Surendranagar got new lease of life as a Leuva Patel family donated liver of their family member. The kidneys were also donated, which will be used for research work.
According to details of the incident, Jaysukh Bodhani (57), a resident of Punagam and originally from Amreli, was on a morning walk around 6.30am at Kargil Chowk on Sunday. There, he slipped and fell down, sustaining serious head injuries. Bodhani was taken to SMIMER, where he was first diagnosed with brain haemorrhage and on Monday declared brain dead.

His wife Champa (55), sons Bhavesh (37) and Pintu (32), both working in diamond companies, were convinced to donate Bodhani’s organs. The sons said if their father’s organs could give new lease of life to someone, they would go for organ donation.

Doctors from the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad, came and accepted the donation of two kidneys and liver of Bodhani. Kidneys were kept for research work, whereas liver was transplanted to the body of 34-year-old Jayesh Satpara of Surendranagar.

A non-governmental organization Donate Life facilitated the whole process.
