Forensic evidences, call records help solve woman's killing case in Delhi

Forensic evidence gathered from an old car and analysis of call detail records helped police solve a two-month-old case of killing of a woman and led to arrest of an advocate, police said today.

Initially, the woman could not be identified as no belongings were found that could give police clues.

After scrutinising missing people's reports filed in this district and neighbouring districts, a complaint about a missing woman lodged in Karawal Nagar in northeast matched with the victim, he said.

Subsequently, the family members of the deceased were called who identified the woman, the said.

Multiple teams of the Police along with a team from the Laboratory (FSL) carried out a raid at the advocate's residence yesterday, but even after a thorough search, they did not find anything.

However, police came to know that the owns another house and the police teams then raided it.

"The forensic team, comprising and Prakash Chandra, saw an old car parked inside the house. They suspected that the car was used and washed recently," a source said.

Forensic experts usually can trace blood spots long after a vehicle had been washed, the source.

"The floor mats of the car and the backseat of the car had blood spots that were seen through certain instruments. The forensic team took the samples for testing. They will carry out a DNA test of the samples," the source added.

"Other evidences were also found which have been seized by the FSL," the senior said.

On the basis of blood stains in the car and some other evidences which helped them zero in on the advocate as the accused, the officer said.

The accused, identified as 42-year-old Giri Chand, an advocate, was arrested today from his residence, said the officer.

During investigation, it was found that the accused and the victim were having an extra-marital affair and were known to each other for over two years.

The accused wanted to end the relationship but the woman threatened to implicate him in false cases, following which the accused strangulated her and dumped her body, he added.
