“I am a little nervous and very excited. It is the first art exhibition that I have organised,” says city-based artist Ishrath Humairah. The Silent Tree showcases 45 works by 23 artists and includes paintings, installations, poetry and photographs. “This is the result of three months of hard work. It is a multi-sensory show and includes art that people can touch, hear and see.”
Talking of the theme, Ishrath says, “I admire Nature. So I wanted the theme to have an association with it. Each tree goes through different experiences in its life. I believe that each tree has a story. They give us joy with their beautiful flowers and sweet fruits. Each artist will bring their own interpretation through their art.”
The artists featured include Belinda Rogers, an abstract artist from Victoria, Australia; Ansul Noor, a poet from Ontario, Canada; Snehal Kashikar, ceramic artist and potter from Ahmedabad, Gujarat; Ashok Bhowmick, a cross-hatch artist from New Delhi; Vipta Kapadia, an artist from Mumbai, Maharashtra; Shamshad Khan, a photographer from Bengaluru, Karnataka; artist G Gangatharan, poet Prakash Rangarajan and installation artist Sowmya Lakshmi N from Coimbatore. “Most of the exhibits are abstracts. I want people to derive at their own conclusions from it.”
Ishrath says that the show is more than just an exhibition. “It will have sessions by artists on different topics to will help artists from our city understand the speakers and their art better.”
On September 1, Silky Arora will talk about sustainability in innovations and designs and Navdeep Kaur will screen a documentary on colours and have a post-screening discussion. On September 3, Vipta Kapadia will discuss on her journey as an artist.
