AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Tuesday announced the rules for promoting students to higher classes for students of class 9 and class 11, through a notification. The notification has been freshly issued as the examination pattern for classes 9-12 for GSHSEB-affiliated schools has changed.

According to the new rules, a student needs to obtain a minimum of 33 marks in a given subject to pass. Only if a student has obtained a minimum of 25 marks in a given subject, can the school/ faculty member give grace marks, according to the rule. The new rules will be implemented with effect from the current academic year.

The notification has been issued to all the GSHSEB-affiliated schools across the state. As per the new rules, a maximum of 15 grace marks per student will be given irrespective of the number of subjects. The grace marks to be given to the student will be decided based on the overall pass percentage and the maximum marks obtained in a given subject in which the student has failed.

GSHSEB-affiliated schools that are willing to observe stricter norms than those specified by the board, must take board's approval for the same.
