Unable to arrange marriage expense, father kills daughter

Unable to arrange finances to marry off his daughter, a 55-year-old man allegedly killed her and injured other family members at Sangam Vihar in National Capital on Tuesday.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Nand Kishore, attacked his wife Vidyawati, two daughters Kavita (22) and Suman (24) with an iron rod at their residence in Sangam Vihar.

“The accused used to repair bicycles in Sangam Vihar and for few couple of months was facing financial crunch. He was planning to marry his daughters but was not able to arrange money for their wedding following which in frustration he attacked his daughters and his wife with a iron rod on the Tuesday morning,” said Romil Baniya, Deputy Commssioner of Police (DCP), south district.

“During crime accused three sons were also present at the home but were in another room who on hearing the noise ran out of the room and brought the victims to hospital. Kavita was declared brought dead to the hospital while Vidyawati and Suman are critical. Both injured are undergoing treatment in AIIMS trauma center,” said DCP.

“Police was informed by the neighbors after they heard the commotion in Nand Kishore's house.  The accused has three sons and three daughters. One daughter is married, while the other two are unmarried. We have registered a case and have arrested the accused. Further investigation is going on,” said DCP.
