Cabinet OK’s hiked incentives

The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday approved various projects pertaining to education department. Significantly “Paralympics and Olympics  Gold Medalists” from Delhi will now get cash amount of Rs 3 crore against existing Rs 1 crore.

Cabinet also revised incentive amount for other international games , instance - Asian and Commonwealth games and para games.

Incidentally, the revised amount of cash incentive in all categories will be applicable from the beginning of the current financial year, this means -the winner in tournaments held after April 1 2018 will get the declared incentive.

Encouraging the sportsmanship among Delhi youth, Cabinet stamped DoE's proposal to escalate incentive amounts for three stage winner - Gold, Silver and Bronze. This further means that, gold winners will now get Rs 3crore against existing amount Rs 1crore, for Silver medal winners, the new incentive amount will be Rs 2 crore against existing Rs 50 lacs earlier and for Bronze winners, the new incentive amount will be Rs 1 crore.

The eligibility criteria for the player is - he/she should be bonafide resident of Delhi for the last three years.  A player will be provided the incentive only once for his/her achievements, i.e. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in a year.  

During cabinet meeting, Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also approved various other project of Directorate of Education (DoE) proposals instance - construction of Stage-I of Phase-II, Delhi Technological University, Bawana Road, with a cost of Rs 291.88 crore and the construction of additional areas under Phase-II of the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology-Delhi (IIIT-D) campus at Okhla are the proposals.

“Presently, the University is being run with insufficient infrastructure facilities which were created to cater to the needs of 3,000 students,” said Delhi government's spokesperson, adding, “However, currently the University has over 9000 students and more than 500 teachers and support staff.”

“The proposal is, therefore, for construction of Stage-I of Phase-II which shall provide infrastructure for additional 3800 students in two academic blocks and provide residential accommodation to additional 990 students in three hostel blocks,” he added. Pertinently, Expenditure Finance Committee in Junly has approved the cost amount for these projects.

For phase-II of the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology-Delhi (IIIT-D) campus at Okhla project, the cabinet granted its approval for the sanction of additional funds of Rs 70 crore to be given to IIIT-D. over and above the already sanctioned loan amount of Rs 250 crore under the Capital Head, as per the Cabinet Decision No. 2087 dated 01.10.2013 to cover increase in cost of construction of Phase - II of IIIT-D Campus due to additional area of construction, escalation and variation and also due to change in taxes, giving due consideration to its financial condition and other submissions made by IIIT-Delhi.

“The project shall be completed as per approved scope of work within scheduled period at the sanctioned cost. No escalation will be considered in future,” Delhi government said in a press statement.
