Bhopal: People happy with BMC’s nullah widening drive

Bhopal: Residents from posh colonies including Ruchi Landscape, Pebble Bay colony Jathkhedi and Bagmugalia among others attended the mayor chaupal held on Moday to thank the Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s for conducting a nullah widening drive in the city

They thanked mayor for removing encroachment from RKDF Engineering college which would have covered the nullah. However some resident also turned up to ask the mayor to remove the filth and debris left after the BMC’s drive.

Residents now fear that the debris and filth may again find its way into the drain with a fresh spell of rain. Encrochments over nullahs had caused water-logging in many covered campus of posh colonies at Misrod Road. Visitors also raised an issue of chocked drains which causes water-logging.

Non-functional streetlights

Residents visiting the mayor chaupal also raised the issue of streetlights which do not function as a result most of the colonies in outskirts plunge into darkness in the evening. Mayor Alok Sharma assured that the complaints will be disposed at the earliest.

Waterlogging

In recent spell of heavy rain, water gushed in many covered campuses of posh colonies in the city including in the entire stretch Misrod Road. The residential areas were waterlogged and residents spent days and nights in knee deep water.

This happened mostly because of chocking of drains and nullaha due to encroachment or lack of cleaning. Rain created havoc in the lives of the people residing in the stretch and people had a difficult time in evacuating inundated water from their house.
