Defending rahul

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Mixed results” (August 27). Though hue and cry was made by the saffron brigade over the utterances of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in Berlin and London over issues relating to India, what leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) conveniently forgot is that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself who set the bad precedence for blame-game on foreign land.

Despite advice from the sane populace that he should desist from making such unpalatable remarks on the foreign soil, he cared tuppence and continued to go ahead with his comments, decrying the earlier UPA Government and its leaders in his efforts to pose himself as the sole and emerging saviour of India.

At least Rahul Gandhi’s comments are mild and civil. Most of his utterances are relevant and true. Can anyone dispute his assertion that demonetisation as also the Goods and Services Tax, that were rolled out without any homework, have done the maximum damage to the small and medium industries and led to the shutting down of a large number of industries, resulting in thousands losing their jobs?

Hasn’t lynching of innocents in the name of ‘holy cow’ become a day-to-day affair since the BJP came to power in 2014?
