Tension prevails at Pipili hosp after patient’s death

Tension prevailed at the Government Hospital in Pipili in Puri district on Monday after a patient died due to alleged negligence of hospital staffs.

The deceased identified as Gajendra Muduli, a resident of Nagpur in Gop block suffering from kidney, liver and heart ailments, had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday evening.

“There were no doctors in the hospital. Later, a pharmacist, after check up declared him dead. However, we waited for the doctors to confirm it. After several requests, a doctor reached the hospital around 3 am and confirmed his death,” a family member said.

Meanwhile, alleging negligence on part of the doctors, Gajendra’s wife lodged an FIR with police. After getting information former Congress MLA from Pipili Judhisthir Samantaray rushed to the spot and held talks with the Chief District Medical Officer.

He alleged that despite repeated complaints regarding unavailability of adequate number of doctors in the hospital, the authorities have not taken any steps to fill the vacant posts.

In another incident, in Kendrapada district, a woman died after allegedly being administered a wrong injection prescribed by a doctor on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Taskina Farheen, 20, wife of Ramjan Bux. Irate family members and locals ransacked the doctor’s residence. Keeping the tense situation in mind, police forces were deployed at the doctor’s house.

Taskina had been taken to a clinic run by Dr Kulamani Baral at the Medical Road in Kendrapada town after she fell ill in the morning. However, she died at home after she was administered an injection as prescribed by the doctor.

“The doctor asked us to conduct blood test of the patient at pathology and later asked us to bring an injection from a particular medicine store. After she was administered the injection, she passed away,” said the deceased’s father-in-law Khadim Bux.
