PATNA:
Patna University (PU), which celebrated its centenary recently, is working on a war footing to get National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation and the coveted ‘heritage status’ from the UGC.
The PU administration has asked the heads of all postgraduate departments and officials to furnish the necessary information along with relevant documentary evidences required for preparation of self-study report (SSR). The conveners and members of the SSR preparation committees have been asked to complete their assignments at the earliest so that the SSR could be uploaded to the website of NAAC on time.
PU vice-chancellor
Rash Bihari Prasad Singh on Tuesday said necessary steps have been initiated to remove the shortcomings coming in way of accreditation. The state government has also assured all necessary financial support to PU for getting NAAC accreditation.
The VC admitted that this premier university could not make desired progress in recent years owing to adhocism prevailing in the university administration. “Things are moving in the right direction and visible signs of improvement have started appearing. The university has already submitted proposals to the state government for opening as many as 11 new departments. An incubation centre for imparting soft skill training to the scholars is being set up. Language and media labs are being set up in the postgraduate departments of humanities faculty and the process of complete automation of office working is in progress,” the VC said.
Singh added the PU was the first university in the state to introduce choice-based credit system (CBCS) from the current academic session (2018-19) itself. “The university also boasts of publishing the results of all undergraduate examinations of the last academic session by the end of the session. The PU has started attracting foreign scholars to its various academic programmes. As many as three scholars from foreign countries, including a girl from
Romania, have been admitted to both UG and PG courses of the university in the current academic session,” he said.
PU is likely to host the much-publicized National Dolphin Research Centre soon. “CM Nitish Kumar will lay the foundation stone for this centre at Rani Ghat near
Patna Law College soon,” the VC said.
PU is also likely to sign an MoU with the
Bihar State Disaster Management Authority for the establishment of an advanced seismic research centre at
Patna Science College. This centre, a brainchild of Nitish, will be the first of its kind in this region for studying earthquakes, he added.
