Manhunt over Solihull attack on mother and daughter: what do we know?

Police have named Janbaz Tarin as the man wanted over the double murder of a mother and daughter in Solihull in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 21-year-old is being sought over the stabbings of his ex-partner, Raneem Oudeh, 22, and her mother, Khaola Saleem, 49, according to West Midlands Police.

According to The Sun, the force has referred itself to a watchdog over previous contact with the victims and has been accused of ignoring their pleas for help. 

A neighbour told The Times: “The mother told me they were having a bit of bother with her daughter’s ex-boyfriend.

“They had recently split up and he kept coming around. They were worried enough to call the police a few times but they weren’t taken seriously.”

The police force has made a direct appeal to Tarin to hand himself in. It has also called on the public to contact detectives with information.

Chief Constable Dave Thompson said: “Huge effort underway to locate this man. Call us, web chat us or tell Crimestoppers UK if you can help.”

What happened to Raneem Oudeh and Khaola Saleem?

Oudeh and her mother were found with stab wounds at the scene of the attack on a road in Solihull near Birmingham. Both women were confirmed dead at the scene.

Neighbours described hearing screams in the early hours of the morning, says The Guardian.

One woman said she saw a man leaving the scene in a van. A neighbour told BirminghamLive: “I thought it was foxes screaming. She was absolutely screaming her head off. He wasn’t speaking English. He shouted something and then ran off.

“There was a lot of screaming and shouting and then I saw the guy run off. About a minute later I saw him leave in a van.”

It’s understood the victims were originally from Syria and had lived in the UK for about 16 years.

DI Caroline Corfield, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’ve been working flat out to apprehend Tarin since the early hours of this morning, following up a number of lines of enquiry.

“As we have so far not been able to locate Tarin, I’m now asking for the public’s help in tracing him.”

The women’s relatives said in a statement: “Our family is devastated with the loss of our loved ones.”
