CHENNAI: The main
runway of the
Chennai airport will remain closed for six hours daily - from 12.30pm - till 6.30 pm - for
planned maintenance work.
The work is being carried out on rapid exit
taxiway and straightening of taxiway.
However, there is no change in flight schedules as landing and take-off are being operated on the second runway.
This is the first phase of the closure which will last for six months. It began on Sunday. After six months, the runway will be closed for full day during non-peak hours.
An official said that there were only domestic flights during the time the runway was closed and those flights could be operated on the second runway.
The main runway will be used during evening peak hours and also at night when international flights are operated.
