TDP chief fears rout in elections, alleges YSRCP MLA

YSR Congress MLA from Nagari R.K. Roja on Sunday hit out at Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for trying to enter into an ‘unholy alliance’ with the Congress in a desperate bid to retain power in 2019 elections.

Ms. Roja, who was here to take part in party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Praja Sankalpa Yatra, told reporters that Mr. Naidu, ‘who stabbed TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao in his back to grab power from him’, was now convinced that the people of Andhra Pradesh had decided to vote him out in the Assembly elections.

“After enjoying power with the BJP for four years and amassing lot of wealth, now he is trying to hoodwink the people by organising Dharma Porata Deeksha. The people are observing everything and they have come to a conclusion to revive Rajanna Rajyam (YSR rule) by putting an end to the misrule of Mr. Naidu,” she said.

Ms. Roja said only Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy had the guts to declare that he would go alone in the elections to be held in both the Telugu States.

However, Mr. Naidu, due to reasons best known to him, was not in a position to announce his party’s stand.

If he preferred to align with the Congress, Ministers K.E. Krishna Murthy and Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu had already threatened to raise a banner of revolt against such a decision, she pointed out.

Asked whether the YSRCP would support the Congress in the elections as the party had announced its resolve to grant the Special Category Status (SCS) to A.P. if it was voted to power, she shot back, “who believes the promises by the Congress which had gone ahead with bifurcation in an unscientific manner.”

Crime against women

Alleging involvement of TDP men and leaders in violence against women, including some sexual offences, she said only when Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy formed the government, women would feel completely safe.

On Raksha Bandhan, she said women in the State would take a pledge to dislodge the ‘corrupt and inefficient’ TDP government in the next elections.
