KANPUR: Passengers of Mumbai-bound Pushpak Express had a narrow escape when the train pilot applied emergency brakes after spotting a motorcycle lying close to the railway track near Chhamak nali bridge in Gangaghat police area of Unnao district on late Sunday evening.

Gangaghat police investigating the incident are trying to ascertain the whereabouts of the owner of the red-colour TVS Sports motorcycle being abandoned near the railway track on Lucknow-Kanpur route.

Station House Officer Gangaghat Kotwali Dinesh Mishra said, "They received information about the red colour TVS Sport motorcycle being abandoned close to the railway track near Chhammak nali in Gangaghat area of the district on late Sunday evening from railway officials. The police immediately rushed to the spot and launched an investigation in this regard. The policemen searched the vehicle for documents to ascertain the identity of its owner that was without the registration number."

SHO Mishra said the incident came to light after the train pilot of Pushpak express, which originated from Lucknow for Mumbai, spotted the two-wheeler lying close to the railway track near Chhamak nali in Gangaghat and applied emergency brakes to avoid a collision on late Sunday evening. Further investigation is underway," he added.

While the police are keeping all options open and have spoken to many people, they are yet to receive any fruitful leads in the case. Police have also spoken to several families staying close to the place of the incident and even those in surrounding areas, but nobody has been able to throw any light on the case.

The police are also perturbed regarding the possible motive. "The chances of a group of drunken persons resorting to the act are also being probed. As the vehicle registration number, we are now trying to search vehicle's owner with the help of its engine and chassis numbers," police added.
