MUMBAI: Three days after he left home citing financial crisis and debt,
Dr Irfan Matiyat, a well-known medical practitioner from
Bhendi Bazar, remains
untraceable.
JJ Marg police said it had formed three teams to track him. Police said Matiyat had left behind a note threatening to end his life.
Matiyat's family, which resides in Bhendi Bazar, is distraught. "My father left home around 4 am on Saturday while we all were asleep," said Uzma, Matiyat's second daughter, who is studying to be a dietician at SNDT Women's Univeristy.
Matiyat is known for his generosity toward the poor. In his note, Matiyat states he is unable to face people who might come asking for money.
"He would give small loans to the poor without charging anything extra. However, some people who took money have delayed payment causing a financial crisis," said a source.
Matiyat, who has done his MBBS from Bijapur, began practicing at Harkissondas Hospital and later started his own clinic. He is married and has four daughters.
"Abbu has left behind his Aadhar card, passport, mobile phone and Pan card at home. He is not carrying any identity proof with him. We are worried and praying he returns at the earliest," said Uzma.
"We learnt he was spotted near Mahim on Saturday and informed the police accordingly," said Aarif, Matiyat's older brohter.
Mohammed Saleem, a cousin, added Matiyat had run into debts of Rs 50 lakh and this could have been the reason for contemplating suicide.
