Saturday’s Welsh National Texel Sale saw three vendors share the top call of 6,500gns.

One was for ram lamb Rhaeadr Braveheart, a full brother to the 125,000gns top seller at the Scottish National Texel Sale, Lanark, just two days previously.

Both were bred by from Myfyr Evans’ Rhaeadr flock, Llanrhaeadr, Denbigh.

Like Best of the Best, Lanark’s sale leader, Braveheart is by the 70,000gns Teigulm Younggun and out of an Auldhouseburn dam by the 145,000gns Knap Vicious Sid.

Buying this one was Alun Jones, Gwynfe, Carmarthenshire, for the Ynystoddeb flock.

The sale, at Welshpool on August 25, saw averages up on the year in both the shearling rams and ram lambs.

Moreover, 21% more ram lambs sold than at last year’s fixture.

Also selling at 6,500gns was Maerdy Ace, a shearling tup from Esmor Evans’ Maerdy flock, Mold.

A son of Seiont Unigolymn and out of a Peacehay-bred dam by Scolton Panther, this one sold to Osian Rhys, the sire’s breeder, for his Seiont flock, Lon Pant, Caernarfon . Mr Evans has, however, retained a half share.

The third at 6,500gns was another ram lamb, this time from Paul and Christine Tippetts, Shifnal.

This was Wilodge Bravo, the day’s reserve male champion.

By Baltier Thunderbird and out of a Beautry dam, he sold with an index of 426 to the Draper family for their Claybury flock at Montford Bridge, Shropshire.

Fetching 3,700gns was another of the shearling rams, Caereinion All Star, from Cefyn Pryce, Llanfair Caereinion, Powys.

A fourth prize winner in the pre-sale show, he is fully homebred and sold with an index of 475 to Davies Vrios, Penparc, Ceredigion.

Mr Pryce also collected 2,500gns for shearling tup Caereinion Action Man, a Kimbolton Venturer son out of the same dam. He was the pick of J Stonall, Red Lane, Powys.

Topping the day’s gimmers, at 4,000gns, was the day’s overall champion from Peter Woof’s Stainton flock, Kendall.

This was an ET-bred daughter of Knock Yankee out of a dam by Anglezarke Uno and with an index of 361. She sold to D & H Alderson, Barrowford.

After that came a 2,700gns call for another gimmer, this time from Robert Bennett’s Plasucha flock, Meifod, Powys.

This one is a full sister to Mr Bennett’s 18,000gns sale topper at Lanark earlier in the week.

A daughter of Eden Valley Wiz Kid out of a dam by Garngour Upperclass, she was bought by J Cubbitt, Ballymena.
