Maurya takes oath of office as 7th Guv of U’khand

The newly appointed Governor of Uttarakhand, Baby Rani Maurya took oath of office at Raj Bhawan at a simple ceremony on Sunday evening. Uttarakhand’s acting chief justice, Rajiv Sharma, administered the oath of office to the seventh Governor of the State.

After the oath taking, the Governor inspected the guard of honour presented to her by the 21st Battalion of Madras Regiment of Indian Army.

The oath taking ceremony was conducted by chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh. He read out the warrant issued by the President of India appointing Baby Rani Maurya as the Governor of Uttarakhand.

After the oath taking, the Governor interacted informally with the media and said that her priority would be to work for the all–round development of the mountain State. She said that it was a matter of pride for her that she had been given the opportunity to serve Uttarakhand as its Governor.

She said that there was a popular elected Government in the State. It would be her effort to support the Government while fulfilling her constitutional duties. She said that women empowerment, girls’ education and the cleanliness mission would be strengthened.

Improvement in the standard of higher education and research will be encouraged. She further said that following the Prime Minister’s resolve to create a new India, we will have to build a new Uttarakhand which can contribute to making the new India. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, senior officials and various eminent persons were also among those present on the occasion.

Earlier, Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik, Garhwal Commissioner Shailesh Bagauli and DIG Ajay Rautela welcomed the Governor at the Dehradun Airport. From there she arrived at the helipad in Dehradun where chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh, director general of police Anil Raturi and Senior Superintendent of Police Nivedita Kukreti welcomed her.
