Raksha Bandhan celebrated at Chief Minister’s house

The festival of love and bond Raksha Bandhan celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety at the CM House on Sunday. Women of all the sections of the society and religions besides members of various social organization tied rakhi to the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The Chief Minister extended rakhi greetings to all the sisters.

Chouhan said that the State Government is working on a mission to make women self-reliant. Several steps have been taken in the state to make women self-dependent socially, economically and politically. Women have important contributions in the progress of the state. Many schemes have been started in the state for women empowerment. This includes schemes like Ladli Laxmi, Kanya Vivah-Nikah, Gaon ki Beti and Pratibha Kiran Yojana etc.

Arrangement for 50 per cent reservation in local bodies, 50 per cent in teachers’ recruitment and 33 percent in other government services has been made in the state for women. The women self-help groups are being strengthened further. Madhya Pradesh is the first state of the country, which has enacted a law to give death punishment to convicts for committing heinous crime with girls. Efforts for women empowerment will be continued further. Chouhan made appeal that suggestions should be given for women empowerment to the state government. CM’s wife Sadhna Singh, Minister of State for Cooperative (Independent Charge) Vishwas Sarang, Mayor Alok Sharma, MLA Surendranath Singh and women in large number were present on the occasion.
