Indore: 20% BEd seats still vacant in city colleges

Indore: Nearly 20 % seats are still lying vacant in BEd colleges of the city. The figure at state level is above 23%. For filling up the vacancies, the state government has allowed an additional round of online admission counselling in BEd and seven other teacher education courses.

The registrations for additional round will start on Monday and continue till August 29. “Students who have not registered for the admission counselling so far can do so,” said Indore division additional director (higher education) KN Chaturvedi.

He also stated that students who had registered earlier but did not get college of their choice too can change their college preference. Students can choose up to 50 colleges of their choice. College will be allocated on the basis of their merit list.

The BEd admission process has three rounds of counselling. In the three rounds, 2,623 seats out of 3,250 in 32 colleges of the city were filled. In colleges of other districts the situation was worse. Colleges demanded college level counselling (CLC) for filling up of the vacant. The government did not allow CLC but allowed additional round of counselling for admissions.

Only 25% seats filled in MEd course

Out of 400 seats in seven MEd colleges of the city, only 100 were filled, which makes 25% of total seats. Maximum vacancies, 96 to be precise, are in Tagore Mahavidyalaya. Only four students took admission in the college. Rest six colleges have intake capacity of 50 seats each. Maximum of 25 seats were filled in Victoria College followed by Arihant College (24), School of Education followed (17), Vidyasagar College (14), Matushri College (9), and Khalsa College (7).
