The exhibitions are under way at Poompuhar outlets till September 4

Idols of Lord Krishna in different shapes, sizes, and colours have been displayed at the ‘Krishna Darshan’ exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited at Poompuhar outlets in Coimbatore and Salem.

Idols of Lord Krishna made of sandalwood, papier mache, clay, bronze, brass, teak, black metal, country wood are on display at the exhibition, which will be on till September 4 and is brought up in connection with the Krishna Jayanthi celebrations falling on September 2.

A team of artisans are involved in making of teak wood and country wood idols in Thammampatti in Salem district and these are on display at the exhibition. The papier mache and clay idols have been procured from Tiruchi, Thanjavur and Cuddalore.

According to P. Balakrishnan, manager of the Poompuhar showroom in Salem, idols worth more than ₹ ten lakh have been displayed at the exhibition. The Corporation is looking at sales of ₹5 lakh in the city.

In Coimbatore, the plan is to achieve sales to the tune of ₹10 lakh this year. The idols are from in and around Coimbatore, different parts of Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan (made of fabric and wood), and Hyderabad. The special attraction this year is eco-friendly dolls made of fabric from Rajasthan, says R. Narendra Bose, manager of the outlet.
