Relief materials collected by institutions and individuals in the city for flood-ravaged Kerala are set to sail in a ship from Kolkata Port today.
"The relief materials will be sailing for the Kochi Port today on MV SSL Chennai in two 20-feet containers," Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) Deputy Chairman S Balaji Arunkumar told PTI.
The containers would be carried free of cost by the vessel from the Netaji Subhas Dock here.
"It will take at least seven days to reach the Kochi Port and from there, the port authorities will help to get the relief materials distributed," Arunkumar said.
MV SSL Chennai is a sister ship of the doomed MV SSL Kolkata, which had been abandoned after extensive damage due to a fire.
Sister ships are typically of the same class and size, and owned by the same company.
Over 300 people have died and lakhs displaced in the floods and landslides caused by the monsoon rains since August 8 across Kerala.
