The Madras Hight Court dismissed today as withdrawn an anticipatory bail plea moved by former Anna University controller of examinations in
connection with the alleged re-valuation scam.
Police had booked 10 professors, including the then controller G V Uma, for allegedly "receiving money" from some engineering students and giving them extra marks during re-evaluation.
Uma had been suspended subsequently and a committee formed by the university to look into the issue.
When the plea for anticipatory bail came up, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) informed the court that they were yet to complete the probe on the complaints of corruption and other offences in connection with the scam.
Recording the submission, Justice M Dhandapani asked the response of the petitioner's counsel.
To this, counsel said he would withdraw the application if the court permits.
Recording it, the judge dismissed the plea as withdrawn.
According to petitioner Uma, she held the post of controller of examinations of the university between March 3, 2015 and March 2, 2018.
During the period, she conducted the exams for the university as well as colleges affiliated to it in a fair and transparent manner without giving room for remarks from any quarters.
She claimed that the controller can neither influence the examiners nor the officers to award favourable marks to any student.
The DVAC has not conducted proper inquiry and had opted to pick and choose method of arraigning the petitioner in the scam, she alleged.
She submitted that she would abide by the conditions imposed by the court and cooperate with the investigation.
