YUVA organises Ganesh idol making workshop

YUVA, a national award winning voluntary youth organisation from Panaji in association with Goa Handicraft Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC) organised an eco-friendly Ganesh idol making workshop recently at Marutigad Hall, Mala, Panaji.

With Ganesh Chaturthi fast approaching, YUVA with an aim to impregnate cultural values and eco-friendly Ganesha organised the workshop which was attended by around 45 children and their parents from all over Goa. They were divided in 3 groups and GHRSSIDC trainer Ramakant Shet taught the basics of mud mixing and making shapes of the mud. YUVA members volunteered and helped the children in building the Ganesha structure out of these shapes. Later, they were allowed to use their creativity and work on the model as per their imagination.

Around 50 Ganesh idols were made and decorated at the workshop. The valedictory function was graced by artist and sculptor, Sanjay Harmalkar, as well as chairman of Institute Menezes Braganza and YUVA president Aakash Khaunte, YUVA advisors Shantaram Naik, Sudhir Agshikar, Amey Panvelkar, Nagueshrao Sardessai, Pravin Sopte and Prashant Naik were also present.

Harmalkar addressed the gathering and requested parents to encourage their children to be artistic. He also appreciated work of YUVA and extended his wholehearted support for future activities. Khaunte expressed happiness over the participation and response of the children and their parents for the workshop. He promised that YUVA will work harder to organise such workshops every year. He urged parents to encourage kids and support them.

YUVA founder and Goa State Youth awardee Raghuvir Mahale conceptualised the idea of having this workshop so that a competition could be organised next year.
