NAVI MUMBAI: The NMMC will be first in the state to use treated STP water for industrial production. The civic body has forwarded the STP tertiary treatment tender to the state government for technical approval.
The civic body has finalised the tender with ultra-filtration technology for treatment of 40 MLD—20 MLD each at the Koperkhairne and
Airoli STP units to supply to the industry at a cheaper rate than the MIDC water supply for industry. This higher grade treated water is described as good as the MIDC treated drinking water supplied from Barvi
dam for industrial production. The STP water will economise use of drinking water.
The nod of the technical committee of the state government will set the process of issuing the work order. "Two parties had bid and one of them was selected," the civic body said. However, it took nearly 10 months for the tender that was floated in October 2017 to be finalised after being re-tendered
thrice for want of bidders.
The project involves infra spend of Rs 132 crore on the capital
investment and Rs 248 crore as operation and maintenance. The capital investment will be funded 50 % under AMRUT ( split between centre and state governments) and the remaining 50 % (Rs 66 crore out of Rs 132crore) by the NMMC. The O&M cost will be recovered by the water charges recovered from MIDC. NMMC will have to sign an agreement with MIDC.
