A 26-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by a 27-year-old man after the victim’s shoulder brushed against the accused’s on Sunday afternoon in outer Delhi’s Nangloi, the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Jeetu. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rajinder Singh Sagar said the accused has been arrested. He has been identified as Deepak.
He collects cash at public convenience outlets in Nangloi.
The police received a call around 4 p.m. and were informed about a person lying unconscious in an open space in JJ Colony.
They reached the spot and the victim was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
The police conducted a local enquiry and it was revealed that accused Deepak had beaten up Jeetu in front of a crowd.
“With the help of local and technical intelligence, Deepak was arrested,” said a senior police officer.
When he was interrogated, he said that the victim’s shoulder had brushed against his while the two were crossing paths. Jeetu allegedly passed a comment, which enraged the accused and the two got into an abusive argument that turned violent.
‘Accused was drunk’
“The accused was drunk at the time of the incident. He first punched Jeetu a number of times. He then sat on his stomach and beat him up,” the officer said.
The police said that the victim had some visible injuries on his body. It is, however, suspected that he died due to an internal injury. The post-mortem report is awaited.
