CHANDIGARH: The crime branch of the UT police has busted a gang of
burglars, with the arrest of three persons and recovered stolen goods worth Rs 50 lakh.
A Mohali-based jeweller who used to buy stolen ornaments from the thieves was also arrested.
The accused have been identified as Jagdeep Singh (24), a resident of Sector 7, Ambala City; Shankar Thapa (28), a resident of Sector 52; Ashok Kumar Tiwari (27), a resident of Ayodhya, UP and Gurminder Singh (54) of Phase I,
Mohali, the jeweller.
Ravi Kumar, SP (crime), said Jagdeep Singh was caught from the small roundabout of sector 35-36. On his disclosure, police arrested the other three accused from different parts of the city. Police claimed 16 theft cases of police stations of sectors 3, 31, 34, 36, 39, 49 and Mauli Jagran had been solved.
Police claimed to have recovered three diamond rings, two pairs of diamond tops, five gold necklaces, four gold chains, two gold lockets, five gold rings, one gold mangalsutra, four gold tops, four gold ear rings, three gold nose pins, two rings, two pairs of gold ear rings, two silver bracelets, 10 silver coins, 13 silver rings, four pieces of a silver pendant set, six silver anklets, one silver bangle and silver necklace and Rs 1.50 lakh. Police also recovered two LED TVs, a DVR (digital video recorder), keys of a BMW and five other cars, seven wrist watches, two women bags and Rs 500 in coins. Police said Ashok Tiwari told them he had given a gun to somebody in Ayodhya, UP.
A local court has remanded the accused in judicial custody.
