Andhra cop drowns in bid to recover bag from sinking car

The car in which Vamsidhar and his mother were travelling went out of control and fell into the irrigation canal apparently after one of its tyres got punctured, police said.

A 30-year old police sub-inspector and his mother escaped after their car plunged into a canal but the man allegedly drowned minutes later while trying to recover a bag from the vehicle on Sunday in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

The car in which Vamsidhar and his mother were travelling went out of control and fell into the irrigation canal apparently after one of its tyres got punctured, they said.

The SI managed to jump to safety and helped his mother to come out.

But tragedy struck soon as he drowned after entering the waters to recover the bag from the sinking car, they said.

Vamsidhar and his mother who hailed from Koduru village were returning home after attending a wedding when the mishap occurred, police said.
