The commercial run of the special train with a 163-year-old steam engine started here on Saturday.

In a bid to attract more tourists, the special train will be operated between Puducherry and Chinnababusamundram, covering a distance of 17 km.
The train is operated at a speed of 25 km per hour and a ticket fare of Rs 500 for adult and Rs 300 for children is being collected.
It may be noted that Express-EIR 21 steam engine was brought to India from Britain in 1855. The steam engine was not used after 1909 and was kept for exhibition in Howrah.
However, it was repaired following which several heritage runs of the steam engine have been operated between Chennai Egmore and Kodambakkam in recent years.
The engine was brought to Puducherry on July 23 and a trial run was successfully conducted between Puducherry and Chinnababusamundram.
Tiruchirappalli Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Udayakumar Reddy among others were present at the function.
