Man arrested over the death of a woman in Sydney's west
A teenager has been charged with murder after a woman died in what police say was a random attack at a unit block in western Sydney on Saturday.
Police and paramedics found the woman, 64, with serious injuries when they were called to the block's car park at Sandal Crescent at Carramar shortly before 1.30pm.
They tried to revive her, but she died at the scene.
Officers chased the man, 18, before arresting him.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said the man and woman were not known to each other and the encounter appeared to be "a random attack".
One neighbour said he'd lived in the area about five years and "nothing like this has happened, ever".
"It's a real shock," he told Seven News.
The accused, of Airds, was refused bail at Fairfield police station and will face Parramatta bail court on Sunday.
Detectives have set up a crime scene and will continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
