A first information report (FIR) was filed against Madhya Pradesh Congress legislator Umang Singhar and some others for allegedly hitting and threatening a BJP worker in Dhar district, 250 km south east of Bhopal, police said.

The police lodged the FIR on Saturday night following a complaint by Pradeep Gadiya, the BJP worker and resident of Tanda village. The incident took place in his village on Saturday when Gadiya accompanied BJP MP Savitri Thakur and officials who were visiting the village to give a cheque of Rs 4 lakh to a family following the death of their daughter due to electrocution on Friday.

Police said Singhar snatched the cheque from the hand of the official and when Gadiya objected to his behaviour, he hit him and threatened him with dire consequences.

Dhar SP Virendra Singh said the FIR had been lodged against the MLA.
