The Cuttack Police on Saturday took mafia don Syed Usman Ali, alias, Tito on a two-day remand to grill him in connection with his alleged involvement in a firing incident that took place in March this year under the Jagatpur police station. The motive behind the firing apparently was a tender-related dispute in which LeT terrorist Abdur Rehman’s brother Tahir Ali Khan of local Maddhya Kachha was injured.

“We will also interrogate him to establish his involvements in other criminal incidents of the city, including that of a series of extortion and snatching incidents, which took place on the Cuttack-Paradip road,” said Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh.

Earlier, the Commissionerate police had prayed the JMFC Court of Salepur to take Tito on a five-day remand for interrogation. The court, however, granted two days of remand.

Tito was arrested last month from Kendrapada by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch; and since then, he is in the judicial custody of the Kendrapada Sessions Court.
