Sonakshi Sinha plays the new Happy in Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi.

Sonakshi Sinha’s latest movie is not getting a lot of love from the audience. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi picked up pace on Day 2 and just might be able to make the same money as its predecessor, Happy Bhag Jayegi.

The sequel made Rs 6.7 crore in two days and is expected to close in at Rs 10 crore, the same amount as was made by the original in its opening weekend. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures on Sunday. “#HappyPhirrBhagJayegi shows HEALTHY GROWTH on Sat... Sun is expected to be better... Opening weekend biz is expected to be in the same range as the first part [#HappyBhagJayegi had collected Rs 10.71 cr]… Fri 2.70 cr, Sat 4.03 cr. Total: Rs 6.73 cr. India biz,” he wrote in his tweet.

The 2016 original, starred Diana Penty, Abhay Deol and Jimmy Shergill in lead roles. The film was appreciated for its earthy comedy and Jimmy’s performance as the jilted groom who gets left at the altar.

The sequel stars Sonakshi in the lead with new entrant, Jassie Gill. Reprising their roles from the first movie are Jimmy, Diana, Piyush Mishra and Ali Fazal. Raja Sen wrote in his review for Hindustan Times, “Unfortunately, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi relies too hard on obvious attempts at humour at the expense of the Chinese characters — from their names conveniently made to sound like expletives, to the way Indian characters can’t tell them apart. This is lazy, juvenile and unnecessary. Inadvertent as it may be, the best joke is on us. It is when Chinese men, looking into a passport and then at a person across a table, mistake Sonakshi Sinha for Diana Penty. It isn’t their fault, you see. We all look alike.”

Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the comedy ride hit the theatres on Friday.
