CHENNAI: A worker died after he fell from the roof while removing asbestos sheets over platform four at St Thomas Mount railway station on Saturday.
The incident comes weeks after the death of five passengers when they were crashed against a concrete fencing abutting platform three of the station. They were travelling on the footboard of a Chennai Beach-Tirumalpur passenger train.

Sources said Sumesh, 30, engaged by a contractor from Bihar to remove asbestos sheets, slipped and fell from the roof injuring himself severely. He was working with five other workers.

Personnel from the Government Railway Police rushed to the place and sent Sumesh to the Government Hospital in Chromepet in an '108' ambulance. Doctors at the hospital examined and declared Sumesh dead on arrival. Police have registered a case of accidental fall and further investigations are on.
