ALWAR: Three passengers were killed and 20 others were injured when a bus carrying pilgrims from Haridwar rammed into a stationary truck in
Behror area of
Alwar district early Friday morning.
The accident occurred at 6am when passengers were still asleep and the truck driver was having tea after parking his truck near the eatery. “The bus was speeding and it seems that driver had lost control. The bus rammed straight into the truck, one portion of the bus was completely damaged due to which three persons were killed,” an official said.
The victims have been identified as Ram Naryan (62), Prabhu Narayan (58) and Suja Ram (67), all residents of Jaipur’s Machwa village. “The passengers were returning back after taking a holy dip in Haridwar and the bus was en route Jaipur when the incident occurred,” an official told TOI.
A five kilometer long snarl on National Highway-8 was reported which lasted for about an hour. A JCB machine was called to remove the bus which was damaged in the accident. “There are 20 passengers who sustained injuries, seven of them are critical and have been shifted to another hospital,” the official said.
A highway patrol vehicle of Alwar police was present at the spot which rushed to the accident spot to rescue the injured. “The truck was parked safely near the corner of the highway when the accident occurred. We are investigating the matter to find out how the accident happened,” the official said.
The injured were rushed to private and government hospitals in Alwar, while bodies of three victims were handed over to their families after the examination. The city police said that majority of pilgrims were elderly and were returning from Haridwar.
