Crops in 7,100 acres across districts destroyed in deluge

3 lives lost, over a thousand huts damaged

Three lives were lost, while crops cultivated in 7,167 acres and a total of 954 huts were completely destroyed in the floods that hit certain districts of the State.

According to an official release, 1,029 more huts were partially destroyed, and a total of 186 villages and 43 taluks were affected by the deluge.

5,000 shifted to camps

As on August 24, a total of 5,595 people had been shifted from low-lying areas and accommodated in 20 camps in five districts — Erode, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam and Cuddalore. They included 2,323 women and 775 children.

The water levels at the Mettur, Bhavani Sagar and Amaravathi dams were 120.02 feet, 102 feet and 87.27 feet respectively.

The quantums of release from these dams were 25,126 cusecs, 5,448 cusecs and 1,290 cusecs respectively, as on Friday morning.
