GURUGRAM: A man has been arrested with 4,200 stolen
mobile phones in his possession. According to police, the market value of the phones is over Rs 87 lakh. He was produced in a city court and sent to judicial custody on Saturday.
The man has been identified as Ramesh alias Bablu, a resident of Motihari in
Bihar. Police said Ramesh, along with three accomplices, broke into a Sector 12
godown owned by mobile phone and electronic appliance manufacturer
Xiaomi on the night of May 18 this year. They fled with a large number of brand-new smartphones, washing machines and other electronic appliances.
The Sector 17 crime unit was investigating into the crime, and one of the accused, Alas Miya, was arrested in Motihari on August 6 and sent to police remand for questioning. Although only one mobile phone was recovered from his possession, he revealed the names of his three accomplices.
On the basis of the information provided by Miya, Ramesh was also arrested in Motihari with the stolen mobile phones on August 12.
During questioning, Ramesh revealed that they hired a truck for the burglary. The stolen goods were loaded in the vehicle and sent to Bihar for hiding. “The accused were in touch with some contacts in Nepal. They were trying to send the stolen items to Nepal to sell them there. Our crime unit team recovered 4,239 brand-new mobiles. The market value of these mobiles is over Rs 87 lakh. Our teams are conducting raids to nab the other two associates,” said Shamsher Singh, ACP (crime).
