Ludhiana Police detains two, recovers gold ornaments

LUDHIANA: Khanna Police on Saturday early morning detained two persons at a check post on GT road after more than 7.5 kilograms of Gold jewellery was recovered from their car. The duo was identified as Dharampal of Dhiankar Garg in Sujainpur of district Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh and Anil Kumar of Kathrani in Kadon of the same district.

Giving details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna Dhruv Dahiya, said that Inspector Manjit Singh Incharge Narcotic Cell Khanna, ASI Labh Singh and other members of their team were checking the suspected vehicles/suspected persons during the special nakabandi at a Mall G.T. Road in Khanna. He added that during checking, Police party stopped a Honda Amaze Car bearing registration Number PB-10-DR-0101 which came from the Gobindgarh side.

Police officials said that on being asked the duo in the car identified themselves as Dharampal and Anil. They added that on frisking of the car, police party recovered 7 kgs 500 gms 7 ml gms Gold (Jewellery) under the Car seats.

Cops said that on asking about the Gold jewellery the duo couldn’t produce the relevant document for the consignment. They added that the duo was later handed over to the Income-tax department for the Further Investigation.

Police officials said that whereas Dharampal is aged between 30 to 35 years old, Anil is aged between 25 to 28 years. They added that the estimated cost of the recovered consignment is around Rs 1.75 crores.
