GURUGRAM:
MCG demolished six
illegal structures and freed 1,500 square yards of government land near Nathupur village in an anti-demolition drive on Friday.
The
demolition drive in Nathupur was carried out on Friday morning under the supervision of joint commissioner Vijay Yadav, who had been appointed as the duty magistrate. A team of MCG officials, along with 100 cops, conducted the drive.
“Several people had encroached upon government land. We have not only removed the encroachments, but also fenced the area so that the squatters don’t come back again,” a senior MCG official said.
Meanwhile, in a similar drive, 16
buildings which had been constructed without approved plans were sealed in several areas in Zone -1, including Jyoti Park, Krishna Colony, New Colony and Laxman Vihar. “We had sent many notices to the plot owners asking them to stop the construction, failing which we had to seal the buildings,” the official said. Temporary structures were also removed from MG Road, Iffco Chowk, Guru Dronacharya metro station and Huda City Centre.
The drives come after a meeting of MCG officials held on Thursday, in which commissioner Yashpal Yadav issued directions to free all MCG properties from encroachments. MCG land worth crores is currently under encroachment. As per the norms, it is mandatory for everyone to get their building plans approved by the corporation before any construction work. All the buildings failing to comply with the norm will be sealed or demolished, MCG officials said.
