The Chhattisgarh Government will soon get developed a unique Mobile App that educates people about the main types of disasters and helps in spreading awareness about the safety protocols that have to be followed when disaster strikes, officials informed.

The application would guide the user about what to do, where to find help, what they need help with, try to crowdsource this help and also send out targeted alerts using location-based technologies, they informed.

A total of 114 teams had been registered so far for its Hackathon Challenge to submit ideas for the project.

As part of the solution, a visual and simple to understand interface would be used. Integration should be explored with existing map APIs for the user to mark themselves in danger on the map, mark where they need supplies (and what kind of supplies they need), crowdsource help using the map, and find the nearest help centre (e.g. hospital, supplies camp, etc).

There would be a feature of marking yourself safe and inform loved ones, officials informed.

There would also be a way to connect with social media platforms and crowdfunding platforms to get help and spread awareness. This solution would also be linked with existing government machinery and infrastructure such as Dial 112.

The application can potentially have the functionality to integrate the disaster management mechanism of state departments with insurance firms, hospitals, fire and police department, and other disaster relief material supply companies, institutes, NGOs and volunteers. Integration with the IT infrastructure of the state can be used to enable fast and quick deployment of resources.
