As Hurricane Lane came close to Hawaii, it batters the rural Big Island. It lashed the island with nearly 50 centimeters of rain in just 24 hours with a sustained wind speed of 120 mph (193 kph). However, rain and wind shifted to Maui overnight and it will then shift to Oahu, the most populous island. According to forecasters, it will move closer to Hawaii’s main island by late Thursday and could bring dangerous surf of 20 feet (6 meters).
