Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi stars Jimmy Shergill, Sonakshi Sinha, Jassie Gill and Piyush Mishra in main roles.

Sonakshi Sinha’s latest film’s fate at the box office is not looking good. The first day figures for Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi are in and the film has managed to earn only Rs 2.7 crore.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures on Saturday. “#HappyPhirrBhagJayegi has a slow start on Day 1... Fared better in North... Needs to witness substantial growth over the weekend + maintain a strong trend on weekdays to leave a mark... Fri Rs 2.70 cr. India biz... First part had collected Rs 2.32 cr on Day 1,” he wrote in his tweet.

The film is a sequel to 2016 comedy, Happy Bhag Jayegi, starring Diana Penty, Abhay Deol and Jimmy Shergill in lead roles. The film was appreciated for its earthy comedy and Jimmy’s performance as the jilted groom who gets left at the altar.

The sequel stars Sonakshi in the lead with new entrant, Jassie Gill. Reprising their roles from the first movie are Jimmy, Diana, Piyush Mishra and Ali Fazal. Raja Sen wrote in his review for Hindustan Times, “The original was surprisingly fizzy, a film where the plot made little sense and the protagonists were duds, and yet there were giggles to be had. The sequel has an even more ridiculous plot, a tedious heroine and — this is the crucial bit — not enough gags. It runs out of steam long before the finish line.”

The film is directed by Mudassar Aziz.
