JAIPUR: In a chilling incident, a three-year-old girl was
sexually assaulted by a middle-aged neighbour inside her house on Thursday evening under the
Jhotwara police station area.
The child is currently undergoing treatment at city’s JK Lone hospital where she is under constant observation of a team of doctors.
Jhotwara SHO Pradeep Singh informed TOI that a 45-year-old person, who lived as a tenant in the same building has been detained. “The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the child was sleeping with her mother. When the mother woke up, she found her daughter was missing. She searched for her and looked for her in the washroom. She found her daughter crying and the suspect hurrying out of the washroom,” he said.
Later in the evening, the girl narrated her ordeal. She also complained of physical pain in her private parts following which she was rushed to the hospital. “When the matter came to the fore, the parents filed a complaint at the police station against the suspect. We have detained him and he is being interrogated,” an official said, adding that an FIR under Sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
“After the family filed the complaint, we searched for the suspect and have rounded him up. We could not speak to the kid as she is not in a condition to speak. She is in
deep shock because of the incident,” the official said, adding that both the girl and the suspect lived in the same building as tenants.
“The suspect works at a jewellery shop. He is a grandfather and has been booked. He is currently being interrogated,” the official said, adding that the girl’s condition was stable.
The girl’s parents are migrant workers who had come to the city a few years ago in search of employment.
